In the world of great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the words “cool climate” have become shorthand for a more refined and elegant style of wine, where complex and delicately layered aromas evolve into beautifully delineated flavors, underscored by racy natural acidity. Those who aspire to make the most thoughtful and sophisticated expressions of this kind of wine practice their craft on the extreme cool-climate edges of California viticulture. Perched seven miles from the Pacific Ocean and Carmel Coast on a mountaintop, Albatross Ridge is a vineyard on this edge.
Our twenty-five acres of pinot noir and chardonnay are rooted upon a rolling Carmel Valley ridge rising 1250 feet in elevation overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Carmel Coast in the distance. Planted in 2008, the vineyard came into production in the fall of 2010. Our creed and passion is to grow wine of distinction and to honor the unique soils, setting, and micro-climate that we are privileged to call our own.

We can hardly wait for you to taste our wines! Whether you find yourself in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Valley, or Monterey all of our locations are open and feature an array of wines for you to taste. Our newest location in Downtown Monterey pairs our wines with locally inspired tapas. Our Tasting Cottage in Carmel Valley features both indoor and outdoor seating in our expansive garden area and our other Tasting Room in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea features indoor seating in an elegant setting. All of our tasting rooms have been entirely remodeled using beautiful stonework and craftsmanship. Regardless of where you decide to visit us, our team is ready to host you and educate you on our winemaking philosophy. We encourage reservations!

Our 2019 Albatross Ridge Cuvée Vivienne Pinot Noir
Named after the winemaker’s daughter, For this vintage we were fortunate to have very long ripening and hang time which contributed to the Cuvée Vivienne’s slightly darker color than past vintages and a dense core of tart cherry, ripe strawberry, and a lingering finish of ripe raspberry. This wine loves any sort of meat, and elevates a homemade grassfed bacon cheeseburger in our kitchen all the way up to a roasted leg of lamb.
