When you think of Mead, or honey wine, the heart of central North Carolina is probably not the first thing that comes to mind! You probably think of Renaissance Fairs, Vikings or old English castles. Ben and Becky Starr hope to change that! Starrlight Mead, opened almost 4 years, makes honey wine using primarily NC honey.

Most people assume that all mead is sweet, since it is made with honey, but you might be surprised! says Becky. Among the fifteen varieties available, about half are off-dry, or lightly sweet, and the rest range from semi-sweet to sweet.

The winery and tasting room are located in the Chatham Mills complex, behind Chatham Marketplace, in Pittsboro. Open Thursday through Saturday from noon to 6 pm and Sunday from 1 - 5 pm, with Mead Tasting and tours available during regular hours. There is also honey tasting for the kids!
